Laser hair removal is an extremely popular cosmetic procedure performed to destroy hair follicles for smooth, hair-free skin. The lasers work by targeting hair follicles and destroying the active hair growth. We typically suggest stretching your treatments out at minimum of 4-6 weeks for the face and neck, a minimum of 6-8 weeks for the body, and up to 12-16 weeks for slow-growing hair anywhere on the body.
Individuals who are tired of shaving, waxing, or tweezing to remove unwanted hair will benefit from laser hair removal. Pigment in the hair follicles absorb the laser light, thereby destroying the hair follicle, and those with dark, coarse hairs often see the best results. Laser does not work in blonde, white, gray, or red hair. It only works on black and brown hair in the treatment area.
Individuals should stop plucking, waxing, using electrolysis, tanning, and any other form of hair removal for six weeks prior to beginning laser hair removal treatment. We also ask that patients discontinue the use of any strong skincare ingredients, including retinols, AHAs, and BHAs for 72 hours before treatment.
On the day of your treatment, you must shave the treatment area and it should be clean and clear of products. You and your technician will need to wear appropriate eye protection during the treatment session. The laser handpiece will then be moved across the treatment area to target unwanted hair follicles. Overall length of your laser hair removal session will depend on the size of the area being treated.
There is no downtime following laser hair removal, so patients can feel free to return to their everyday activities as soon as they feel comfortable. Treated skin may appear pink or slightly swollen, which will dissipate with time. Cool compresses and moisturizers may help. Over the next month, the treated hair will fall out, and throughout your treatment sessions, hair should reduce in thickness, growth, and speed.
We ask that individuals avoid sunbathing for at least one week following treatment, and avoid swimming and using hot tubs and saunas for several days following treatment.
