What is SKINVIVE™?

SKINVIVE™ by JUVÉDERM® is an injectable skin booster made from modified hyaluronic acid (HA), a molecule that is naturally present in your skin. It is placed in the skin of the cheeks as tiny microdroplets to improve cheek skin smoothness and add hydration from within. Unlike traditional dermal fillers, SKINVIVE™ is not designed to add volume or change the shape of your face. Its goal is smoother, more hydrated-looking skin.

How SKINVIVE™ Works

You may know hyaluronic acid as a key ingredient in moisturizing creams and serums. Hyaluronic acid attracts and holds water. When SKINVIVE™ is injected into the skin as microdroplets, the HA helps the skin retain moisture, which improves the smoothness of the cheek area.

Who is a Good Candidate for SKINVIVE™?

SKINVIVE™ is intended for adults over 21 who want to improve the smoothness of their cheek skin. It may be a good fit if your cheeks feel or look less smooth than you would like and you do not want to change your facial volume. If your main concern is lost volume or deeper lines, a dermal filler such as Juvéderm may be more appropriate. SKINVIVE™ should not be used by people with severe allergies, including a history of anaphylaxis, or by people who are allergic to lidocaine or to the Gram-positive bacterial proteins used in hyaluronic acid products. Your provider will review your health history at your consultation.

What to Expect During Your Treatment

Your visit starts with a consultation to discuss your goals. On the day of treatment, the skin is cleansed and your provider places small microdroplet injections across the cheek area. SKINVIVE™ contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to help with comfort. The injections take roughly 15 minutes, not including consultation and evaluation time.

Results

SKINVIVE™ has been shown to improve cheek skin smoothness for up to six months after treatment. Results vary from person to person, and your provider can discuss how often treatment may be repeated to maintain them.

Side Effects and Aftercare

Downtime is minimal. The most common side effects are temporary reactions at the injection sites, such as redness, swelling, pain, bruising, lumps or bumps, tenderness, firmness, and itching; most are mild and short-lived. As with any injectable, rare but serious risks exist, including unintentional injection into a blood vessel. Follow the aftercare instructions your provider gives you and contact us if you have any concerns after your treatment.
